Valentine’s day is just around the corner, the day we celebrate love in all forms. Everyone celebrates love in their own special way. Some give chocolates, some give flowers, some give cards, some create a romantic meal, and some search forever to find that one unique gift for their other half. For us Valentines is another way for us to get kreative and create some recyclable decor. Many people decorate for Christmas, helping to create a sense of warmth and cheer all season long. And Valentine’s Day deserves the same treatment because who doesn’t want to always feel loved. A staple of Christmas decor is the Wreath, so why cant we make a Valentine’s wreath too. The best part about this craft is its all recyclable and can even use up scraps of paper or used valentines. Then once the season of love is over, you take a picture of your hard work (to remember the awesome job you did) then toss it in the recycling to make room for your next artistic masterpiece.

Materials:

  • Cardboard circle
  • construction paper
  • heart tracers
  • old valentines
  • paper grass (optional)
  • ribbon

Directions:

You will need to cut out a carboard circle from either one of the may delivery boxes we all get nowadays or even a cereal box can work. Then cut out the centre of your circle. Traced two bowls(one large then one small for the centre) in order to get our circles the right size. The size of your wreath depends on the size of your box but generally they are about 12inches across.

Trace and cut out as many hearts as you can with the constriction paper. We just went with traditional Valentine colours, pink, red and purple hearts, but you can use what every colours you like best or what ever colours best fit your home decor aesthetic. You can either use our heart template found here. Or you can free hand it. I like to fold the paper in half, so I am cutting out 2 hearts at once. As we will need a lot.

Arrange all you hearts onto the cardboard circle so they cover all the cardboard, you can overlap them or have them hanging off the edge. Glue them down. Taking your old valentines, Cut out the pictures or phrases from them, and glue them to the wreath as well. Don’t forget to arrange the hearts and valentine sayings on the wreath before you glue them down, to make sure you have them in the exact perfect position.

We had some paper grass laying around so we glued some to our wreath to add some bursts of colour to the wreath. You can add whatever you want to make the wreath yours, maybe stickers, or foam shapes flower petals, or even glitter.

Using a ribbon, tie it around the top with an overhand knot so you have something to hang it up with.
