Today is the Day, the day which tells us if the cold will end; if spring is on its way; the day we find out if Punxsutawney Phil will see his dreaded shadow.

Ground hog day crafts

Groundhog day is the midway point between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox and over the years it has become a fun day where we watch groundhogs come out of their burrows. It is said that if the ground hog encounters his shadow, he is scared back into his burrow and we can expect 6 more weeks of winter, if he does not see his shadow then spring is right around the corner.

Whatever the outcome is from this wacky weather prediction why not celebrate with making your very own groundhog hiding in his burrow, ready to pop out whenever you want him too.

Materials: paper cup, card stock. groundhog picture, popsicle stick, glue stick, scissors paints or markers

Step 4: Glue the cut out ground hog to the top quarter of the popsicle stick.

Step 5: Cut a slit in the bottom of the cup then push the ground hog stick into the cup and through the hole.

Step 6: Yell “It’s Ground Hog Day!” then push your critter up to inspect your surroundings. Repeat as many times as you need to make sure Spring is on its way.
